Mothers…Wisdom of God
I was in passing with a coworker that I had been praying for. The day after work, I went to add 3 names to my prayer tree and could not remember her mother’s name. I had recalled, “They are very easy names to remember and could associate them with other people that I knew so I wouldn't forget, well I did.
However, I let her know that I was praying for her and her family and apologized that I had forgotten one name and she graciously reminded me of her mother’s name. I followed up to ask how things were going. One thing really caught my attention in a beautiful and also heart-wrenching way.
Her mother had end stage dementia. She cannot remember her children’s names but at times of great anxiety asks, “Where are my kids!?” My friend said that she cannot ascertain which phase of child rearing she re-lives but, “It breaks my heart to see my mother go through this!”
She cannot remember her name, where she is, what’s going to happen next but she knows in her innermost being that she is a mother, that she had children, and was concerned for their safety. What bounds are there for a mother’s love? How great the depths of love and wisdom of God ?
This Mother’s Day, my encouragement is to remember your mother and do so with great honor!
She may not know your name one day but she has loved you with all her heart for as long as you've been alive. If her own identity fades away, her love for you, is imprinted in her being!
